May Competition Winner Announced
By LightSounds - Wednesday, 2 July 2008 :: 92 Views :: Press/Reviews |

The students and staff of
Dutton Park State School
in Dutton Park,
Queensland, were thrilled to learn that an entry from one of their
students on the schools' behalf was chosen as the winning entry in the
Lightsounds May give away - the first in a series of monthly website
give aways.
They tell us that the Sound King SKPACK2 PA system
will be put to great use at many of the schools' events ranging from
weekly assemblies to school discos. Dutton Park State School is a
reatively small school with around 200 students and a budget seemingly
smaller than some family budgets meaning they would never have been
able to afford buying something like this themselves.
The winning entry was
submitted by Naeva
Williams. Her answer to the competition question of where
you would use your Sound King PA System was:
"The
Sound King needs some Dancing Queens - that's me and my friends at my
school disco. Girls need more than books".
Lightsounds congratulates
Naeva on winning the prize for her school and are sure that Dutton Park
State School will be a somewhat louder place to be come the resumption
of the 3rd school term mid July!!!
We'll have some pictures
from the school at a later date. Stay tuned.
For more info about the Sound King SKPACK2
PA System, click here.

away for an American Audio Dual MP3/CD Player, click here.

Responsible Lasers at Lightsounds
By LightSounds - Monday, 30 June 2008 :: 106 Views :: Press/Reviews |
|
Our June give away
offered a Gemini Green twin laser as the monthly prize with the
question "Where would you use your Gemini Green laser?"
Most people, especially
in Sydney, will be aware of the recent laser attacks to aircraft
causing momentary blindness to pilots and potentially putting hundreds
of lives at risk.
There have been a few
responses in the competition suggesting that the laser in the give away
will be used to point at planes should the respondent win the prize.
I would like to point out
that all of the lasers sold through Lightsounds CANNOT produce a single
point and therefore cannot be used to direct a single beam at any
target. It is in fact a requirement of lasers sold for the use of the
entertainment industry that they cannot produce a single point at any
time and that the beam or beams must always be moving in a pattern
generated by moving mirrors or similar thus reducing the apparent
intensity of the laser beam.
The moving laser patterns
produced by these products are only bright enough for entertainment use
which is all they are designed to do.
For more information on our laser products,
click here.

DJ From An SD Card
By LightSounds - Thursday, 12 June 2008 :: 176 Views :: Press/Reviews |
|

American Audio has introduced two new pro audio units that let you carry your music around on an SD card: the SDJ-1 dual SD player ($699); and the Q-SD, a 19” 4-channel mixer combined with an SD player. Both units have built-in SD slots that allow them to read MP3 files directly from SD cards without any external drives, additional software, computers or separate MP3 players required.
SD (Secure Digital) cards are a type of compact flash digital storage media that’s available with memory capacities up to 4GB and more. They’re cheap and getting cheaper, and let you put a thousand MP3s on a postage-stamp size square. It might not be a sexy as digging through crates, but it’s practical.
The SDJ-1 and Q-SD were designed from the ground up to read digital music files directly from SD cards, without any additional hardware or software.
“We took a look at what people were doing and came up with an easy-to-use solution for playing and mixing tracks from SD cards that was very native to what DJs already do,” said American Audio’s Tom Freret. “The whole idea is that DJs don’t have to learn anything different from what they’re accustomed to doing – just put the SD card into the unit and proceed as you would with a traditional CD or MP3 disc.”
Here’s a video from American Audio that shows how it works:

Coming soon: Pioneer MEP-7000
By - Wednesday, 27 February 2008 :: 402 Views :: Press/Reviews |
Coming soon: our new MEP-7000 multi-entertainment player and controller, especially for the mobile DJ and bar market.
The MEP-7000 offers a flexible high quality solution specifically with digital music in mind, being compact and easily to transport, yet inheriting the basic functions and features of our popular CDJ series CD Decks.
The MEP-7000 enables you to play MP3/AAC files stored on various memory formats, along with playback of music from conventional media such as CD/CD-ROM/DVD-ROM discs.
The system can also be setup to playback and mix music automatically using playlists, allowing the system to entertain when no DJ is present.
The MEP-7000 and SEP-C1 Software Entertainment Controller are a response to the trend of laptops being utilised by professional DJs.
Recent developments have changed the way mobile and club DJs organise and play their music. No longer carrying boxes of vinyl or CD’s full of music, laptops, USB flash media and hard drives are becoming standard amongst the DJ community.
Key new features to this product type are the 4.3-inch colour LCD screen that gives clear accurate information, allowing intuitive and easy menu navigation.
The MEP-7000 transforms into a Karaoke playback device when a CD-G disc is inserted, displaying the playback video on the LCD screen, but can also be fed to external monitors using the composite video output terminal.
The SEP-C1 (also available as a separate unit) works as a software controller when used in conjunction with compatible software such as our bundled “DJS”. This allows your to manage and control playback of audio files stored on your computer, to give full scale DJ performance without the need for a mouse or keyboard.

LED Bar from Lightemotion
By LightSounds - Thursday, 6 December 2007 :: 317 Views :: Press/Reviews |
|
The LED revolution is truly upon us with a further addition to the expanding Lightemotion LED range. And who wouldn’t want to be a part of this sweeping change in the way we light up our world? LED is now seen far and wide in
just about any application you can think of. Car tail lights, traffic lights, street lighting, and of course stage and ambient lighting for clubs, bars and restaurants.
The LED Bar is a powerful strip light that can be used for a wide variety of applications. Use the Lightemotion LED Bar to wash venues with vivid colour or even daisy chain and sync up for a runway show. All of the features you would expect are onboard. Four Channel DMX, Sound Active, Daisy Chain, Master/Slave, Strobing and Fade. Installers and production companies are enjoying the many advantages that LED’s have to offer. For a start there are dramatic savings in power consumption, making it an ideal product for regional areas that may have erratic energy supply or limited access to 3 phase power. Dozens of these fixtures can run off a standard power outlet. Having instant colour mixing at your fingertips provides infinite shades and hues with its 384 Red, Green and Blue LED’s.
With no ultra violet or infra-red generated light these fixtures run incredibly cool which also makes them a useful option for end users that may lack experience in such things as safe handling and duty cycles. Who likes spending money on replacing lamps? Well with a suggested 100,000 hour plus lamp life you won’t have to. And they are sturdy and lightweight with a 12 month warranty.
Viva la LED!
RRP $349.

A TOTAL DJ SOLUTION FOR VINYL, CDS, AND MP3 CDS.
Considering all the attention–grabbing features on this muscular hybrid turntable, make sure that you don't overlook its most important asset: a slot–load CD player, with MP3 capability. Fear not, because once you start using the X2, you won't forget all of the great attributes packed into this unit.
Numark's X2 benefits from the industry's highest torque, direct–drive motor, which provides the long–term stability and durability that professionals demand. This exceptional turntable employs adjustable pitch control for both 33 and 45 RPM vinyl records, an ultra–precise aluminum tonearm with cue, height, and anti–skate adjustments. Best of all, the X2 utilizes Numark's patented interchangeable straight or S–shaped tonearm. The X2 is specifically designed for long–term dependable operation with its 12–inch anti–drag aluminum platter and solid core construction (which minimizes vibrations and unwanted noise).
The X2's CD player offers full MP3 playback capability as well as the ability to scratch, loop, manipulate and pitch adjust both audio and MP3 data CDs. Since both the CD and turntable can be played simultaneously, this double–threat hybrid turntable represents a bridge between the comfort and control of vinyl and the expansive capabilities of digital music output.

TTXUSB: A MODERN CLASSIC WITH COMPUTER CONNECTIVITY
By LightSounds - Tuesday, 9 October 2007 :: 193 Views :: Press/Reviews |
|
The TTXUSB stands alone among professional turntables because it was exclusively designed for the modern DJ, with a silicon rubber base that absorbs vibration and dampens low end feedback, and an interchangeable tone arm system that adapts to any DJ style. The TTXUSB, like its predecesor, features user-variable torque. The TTXUSB also delivers versatility and control thanks to an illuminated output bay, a built-in BPM counter, and interchangeable S-shaped or straight tonearms. Best of all, the TTXUSB's built-in USB connector simplifies connection to a computer for fast, professional grade vinyl-to-digital transfer.
As an added benefit, vinyl-to-digital conversion takes just a few mouse clicks thanks to the bundled EZ Vinyl Converter software; a new program available exclusively to Numark that quickly converts vinyl tracks directly to iTunes.
Additional features include digital outputs for direct sampling, Key Lock and ±50% pitch control for unprecedented mixing options. The TTXUSB remains ahead of the game and delivers a new standard in turntables by expanding the possibilities of vinyl.
